Stephen Aitken has been an illustrator since the early 1980's. He has authored and illustrated many books for children.

His work includes The Puffin Book of Bedtime Stories (Penguin, India), Sonu the Metal Elephant (Scholastic, India), Odin's Journey (Futhark Forlag, Norway) My Treasure of Fairy Tales (Igloo Books, UK), and The Mountain that Loved a Bird published in India, Lebanon, Turkey, China and Africa. He has also illustrated over a dozen books for educational publishers in the USA including The Fox, the Dog and the Coyote (Sundance Books), What the Trees Have Seen (Santillana-USA) and The Pond, Masters of Disaster, They Landed One Night for SRA-McGraw Hill. He has published poetry and non-fiction articles in many magazines for children in Canada and maintains a studio in the Himalayas of India.

Stephen is also a biologist and Managing Editor of Biodiversity Journal.
